Wow I just finished reading
this inspirational book, ‘Before I die’ by
Jenny Downham, about a 16 year old girl who is dying of Leukaemia. There is
nothing quite like death to make you want to live. Here is what is written on
the cover, which moved me to buy it immediately………..
‘It’s OK if you’re afraid,’ Zoey says.
‘It’s not.’
‘Of course it is. Whatever you feel is fine.’
‘Imagine it, Zoey - being terrified all the time.’
‘I can’
But she can’t. How can she possibly, when she has
her whole life left? I hide under my hat again, just for a bit, because I am
going to miss breathing. And talking. And windows. I am going to miss cake. And
fish. I like fish. I like their little mouths going, open, shut, open.
And where I’m going, you can’t take anything with
you.
If you were moved too, you

In the book,.....
....when she
realises her time is running out and she writes a list of what she wants to do
before she dies. And her friend commits to making her do it. She wants to be in
love, to take drugs, to be famous, to say yes for a day........ The book inspired me
to do my list of things to do before I die. Here’s mine today, tomorrow may be
different.
To be truly happy
Travel often and visit all
the amazing places I want
Be in love and loved and experience
an inspiring, fulfilling and intimate relationship
To be a mum
To have touched people’s
lives in a positive way and my being here made the world a better place.
Ride a horse again
Speak another language
Dance more
Laugh hard often
Appreciate today
Say yes more
Grow my own vegetables
Be free to say what I want
when I want
